UPDATE TO THE LAND USE PLAN
The Village of Twin Lakes is seeking resident input on possible updates to the Village's Land Use Plan, which is part of the Smart Growth Comprehensive Plan: 2005-2024 adopted in March 2005. The original Plan was a community wide effort undertaken jointly with the Town of Randall . The Plan Commission will host a public listening session on Wednesday, March 25 beginning at 7:00pm at the Village Hall. The Twin Lakes Village Board recently approved the first phase of a project to update the Land Use map included in the Comprehensive Plan to show projects that have been approved in the four years since the Plan was originally adopted. The project scope also calls for the public to have an opportunity to express their thoughts on other updates that should be considered for the Land Use map, which provides basic guidance for the growth of the community. It is anticipated that the Land Use Map will, at minimum, be revised to express potential future uses more clearly in order to provide land owners and developers with information on the community's plan for growth but to provide the Village with flexibility to respond to new growth ideas.
The Village is also planning to update the Land Use map in all of the area within its planning jurisdiction. This area includes not only the land within the Village limits but also all land within an area outside the Village limits called the extraterritorial planning jurisdiction. This area is defined in State Law as the area within a mile and a half of the Village limits but not more than half the distance to a neighboring incorporated municipality, which, in Twin Lakes ' case refers to Silver Lake and Genoa City . The area of Twin Lakes ' extraterritorial planning jurisdiction includes nearly all of the Town of Randall as well as portions of the Towns of Salem and Wheatland in Kenosha County and the Town of Bloomfield in Walworth County .
