Sunday 12pm to 5pm Library services in Twin Lakes are provided through the Community Library
System. Through this system, library services are provided throughout
western Kenosha County, and residents may use any of the system’s three
facilities. The Twin Lakes/Randall branch was established in January 1993. The Community Library System celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2002.
The Twin Lakes Village Board adopted the following resolution to commemorate
Twin Lakes/Randall branch and the 25 years of the Community Library System. PROCLAMATION WHEREAS, on September 19, 1991, June Norin met with the Kenosha County
Library Board to discuss long range planning for library services to county
residents, and
WHEREAS, shortly thereafter, the Village Board of Twin
Lakes established a steering committee to research alternatives to the
County Bookmobile for Twin Lakes residents and invited the Randall Town
Board to join in investigating the creation of a free-standing library
or joining with the Community Library system, and
WHEREAS, on January
17, 1992, with June Norin and Judy Jooss spearheading the Library Planning
Committee, which included Mickey Adams, Polly Anderson, Florence Babusek,
Judy Cantwell, Roberta Fabiana, Janet Jackson, Gloria Laurin, John Opem,
John Parker representing Twin Lakes and Marcell Dion and Rose Nolan representing
Randall, the race was on to open a Library in Twin Lakes, and
WHEREAS,
on May 1, 1992 "Friends of the Randall/Twin Lakes Library," including
committee members Polly Anderson, Janet Jackson, Judy Jooss, Rose Nolan
and John Parker, was formed to raise funds for equipment, fixtures and
books, and; WHEREAS, on June 2, 1992 the Village Board of Twin Lakes passed
resolution R92-6-2 to signal its intent to form the Randall/Twin Lakes
Library, and;
WHEREAS, on January 2, 1993, after many volunteer hours
transporting shelves and equipment and after countless volunteer hours
cataloging books and with less than 10,000 books, the Town of Randall
and the Village of Twin Lakes realized their goal to have a library building
open to the public, and
WHEREAS, that library, as a branch of the Community
Library system, currently houses over 26,600 books, and provides Twin
Lakes and Randall residents with access to full library services within
the community, and
WHEREAS, the Community Library is celebrating its silver
anniversary with a month full of events at all of their facilities. NOW, THEREFORE, THE VILLAGE BOARD OF TRUSTEES FOR THE VILLAGE OF Twin
Lakes, does hereby proclaim February to be Community Library Month in the
Village of Twin Lakes and encourages all residents to celebrate this
community resource by becoming reacquainted with the Community Library and
through support of the celebration events. Dated this 21st day of January, 2002. |
